Design Research and Discovery
Method: Survey
To create an app that solves the pain points of gift-giving, we surveyed to gather insights from potential users. We found that the most common pain points in gift-giving include a time-consuming search for the right gift, difficulty in keeping track of important dates and events, uncertainty about what gift to choose, limited budget for gift-giving, feeling guilty about not giving a good enough gift and a stressful gift-giving experience.
We also discovered that users have the following goals in gift-giving: discovering unique and thoughtful gift ideas for their loved ones, simplifying the gift-giving process and saving time and effort, receiving personalized and meaningful gifts from friends and family, supporting local businesses and promoting self-love through gift-giving, remembering important dates and occasions for gift-giving, connecting with a community of generous gift-givers, keeping track of their wishlists and sharing them with others, and giving and receiving feedback on gift ideas from the community.

To ensure a seamless user experience, we developed a comprehensive component library and style guide. We also used agile methodologies with two-week sprints for the deliverables of the project. Designers used Figma as their main design tool to create user flows, wireframes, UI mockups, and interactive prototypes, while developers used GitHub to write their codes, track progress, and share the results with the team.
Usability Test:
To ensure the app's usability and effectiveness in addressing the pain points and goals of gift-giving, we conducted usability tests and presentations with potential users. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, with users praising the app's convenience, ease of use, and personalized recommendations.
Branding
My concept for the logo and branding of 8Wishes is based on the number 8, the infinity symbol, and the gift wrapping shape. I envision the logo to be a combination of these elements, representing the endless possibilities and joy of gift-giving. The number 8 represents infinity, which symbolizes the limitless potential of gift-giving. Meanwhile, the gift wrapping shape conveys the idea of a gift that is beautifully presented and well thought out. By combining these elements, the logo will convey the message that with 8Wishes, gift-giving is an infinite experience of joy and generosity.
