Project Overview
Nimble is a family task management mobile app that helps parents oversee their kids’ daily tasks by encouraging them to learn essential life skills such as time management, commitment, responsibility, and accountability. The app gamifies the task completion process to make it engaging and interactive for kids while providing parents with a convenient way to monitor their children's progress and reward them for their efforts.

Say goodbye to nagging and hello to responsibility as your children complete household chores and earn rewards through an interactive and engaging experience.
They'll learn time management, commitment, and more while having a blast!
Problem Statement
In today's busy world, many parents struggle to keep track of their children's daily activities, leading to a lack of accountability and guidance that can result in bad habits and routines. This highlights the need for a solution that provides a fun and interactive way for parents to oversee their children's tasks and encourage the development of valuable life skills.

pain points
- Busy parents face difficulties monitoring children's activities and tracking daily tasks
- This can lead to bad habits, and motivating kids to do chores is challenging without guidance
- Teaching essential life skills such as responsibility and time management is hard due to busy schedules.
Solutions
- Fun and interactive task completion with gamification elements
- Learning essential life skills such as time management, responsibility, and accountability
- Progress monitoring and guidance for parents
- Motivational rewards for completed tasks
- Effective communication and collaboration environment between parents and kids.
Features
Assign and Track Tasks
With the ability to assign and track tasks, parents could finally sigh in relief. They no longer had to worry about remembering who needed to do what – Nimble did it all for them. Parents could keep track of everything in one place by assigning tasks to each child and ensuring that everyone was pulling their weight.
Earn Points and Redeem Rewards
Kids could earn points for completing tasks, which they could redeem for prizes and rewards. The app even had in-app achievement badges and levels, making the whole experience feel like a fun and exciting game.
Activity Log
Nimble's activity log made it easy to stay on top of task completion. Notifications and reminders helped parents stay in the loop and take action when needed, while kids could see when they had completed enough tasks to earn their rewards or level up.
MY design process
- Led the design process for Nimble from ideation to design handoff
- Brainstormed ideas and prioritized features
- Analyzed research data from surveys and interviews to identify key pain points and user needs
- Created information architecture, user flows, and wireframes to guide users seamlessly through the app
- Collaborated closely with developers to ensure designs were feasible with the latest product development technologies
- Designed the brand's identity, logo, avatars, icons, and marketing materials.
- Created a component library and style guide to maintain consistency throughout the app
- Created UI mockups and interactive prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas to the dev team
- Ensured the final product was exactly what had been envisioned through careful attention to detail and a collaborative process.
target audience
- Parents with children who struggle to keep track of their kids' daily activities
- Families with busy schedules or parents who work long hours
discovery
Questions, Uncertainty Space
In the discovery phase, we defined our research goals by exploring important questions such as:
- How can we create a solution for parents to manage their child's tasks effectively?
- How can we make completing tasks fun and engaging for kids while promoting good habits?
- How can we simplify the task assignment process for busy parents?

Design Research: 1. Online Survey
We conducted an online survey to validate our idea and gain insights into our target audience's challenges with their children.
15 parents provided valuable feedback, with around 60% struggling to keep track of their children's daily activities. The majority of parents emphasized the importance of cultivating discipline, time management, and good habits in their children.
KEY FINDINGS
Design Research: 2. Online Recourses
As part of our research, we wanted to gather insights from various resources. We came across a Canadian national online survey that caught our attention. The survey, conducted by Whirlpool Canada, had over 1,748 respondents, giving us some great insights into the mindset of Canadians regarding household chores and children.

"79% of Canadians believe that children who grow up without doing chores are more likely to develop an unhealthy sense of entitlement.”
"89% of Canadians think that parents should lead by example to instill a positive attitude towards doing household chores in their children.”
“59 percent of Canadians surveyed feel it is most appropriate to start giving children household chores when they are between five and eight years old, while 27 percent view the ages of nine to eleven years as the best time to start giving chores to children.”
“Among parents surveyed with children at home, 50% of parents surveyed with children at home opt for a clear division of responsibility, while only 28% try to do chores together. Surprisingly, 20% of parents mentioned doing all the chores themselves, which is a significant challenge in itself.”

Design Research: 3. Deep Interviews
We conducted in-depth interviews with parents during the design process to understand their experiences with managing their children's tasks. The interviews helped us refine our app ideas by identifying the pain points and desires of our target audience.
- How do you track your children's daily tasks/chores?
- How do you communicate with your child about completing chores?
- Do you believe that motivating and rewarding your children helps your relationship with them?
- What values do you want to teach your children through task completion?
- Have you experienced difficulty managing your children's tasks? What were the consequences?
Some Answers
Personas
Using the insights gained from our deep interviews, online survey, and personal contextual inquiry research, we created 4 personas: 2 for parents and 2 for kids. This exercise helped us to better understand our target audience and their unique needs, frustrations, and goals, enabling us to design a product that truly addresses their pain points.
empathy maps
Empathy maps help us understand users by mapping out their needs, goals, pain points, obstacles, fears, opinions, behaviors, and attitudes toward a product or service. By doing this, we gain insight into their motivations and can design more empathetic and responsive solutions.

Wireframes
We created wireframes for Nimble to visualize the user flow and screen layouts. To ensure that our wireframes were easy to understand and follow, we added notation and annotation to provide additional details and context. This helped us to communicate more effectively with developers and other team members, ensuring that everyone had a clear understanding of the design and functionality of the product.
Interface Design: UI Mockups
Style guide & UIKIT
As a designer, I created a UIKIT and style guide to ensure consistency and efficiency throughout the design process. The UIKIT contains reusable components, and the style guide defines guidelines for typography, colors, icons, and other visual elements. Using these tools helped me create a polished and cohesive user interface and allowed the development team to implement the design with clear references.

branding
I performed extensive research on the market, competitors, and target audience to craft a distinct brand identity that connects with our customers. Once I established our brand values and messaging, I utilized the Sloth animal to design a logo that represents steady, incremental progress toward success. Although sloths are known for their slow pace, I reimagined them to be fast and Nimble in our brand's image. To ensure our logo resonated with our target audience, I created multiple versions and conducted testing to determine the most attractive one.
